A New Co-op... Fruits & Veggies

OOOoooooo I'm in another Co-op!! This is our all new area Organic Fruits & Veggies Co-op. They company is out of Dallas... Your Health Source...

Here's the list: 2 romaine lettuce, 4 corn on cob, potatoes, 3 onions, 3 peaches, 3 nectarines, 4 plums, 2 mango, 6 zucchini, 7 yellow squash, 2 garlic, 3 cucumbers, and a bag of green beans!!!

I'm thrilled with the variety. I better use it all! I'm not sure it is a fit since it has blown our budget!! Yikes!! The box ran $50!! The co-op runs every other week!! And I've signed up for next week and we'll see how well this goes...

I'm still in the fresh milk coop and every week I'm making yogurt!!

Does it sound too expensive to you??? hmmm... pondering & calculating...

Grace!! ss

I am excited too, but wondering about cost? I also didn't expect to see store bought items. I am still exited and love squash so that will be yummy and on the menu for tomorrow. Let's talk more about this as it settles in.

My opinion on the co-op...although I am partial...;) is that you would not be able to find organic produce for that price around this area...odds are though you cannot even find it organic around here much less buy it. By the way...the mango is WONDERFUL!! I made mango salsa tonight with bean burritos...mmm, mmm good!
Blessings,
Mikki

Hmm, for our family it would be expensive. But if it were possible, I would love to participate in something like that!

I meant to go check out the co-op yesterday. I added up the things in your picture and it looks like around $30 worth. Go by the Granary and see how much some of it would cost. Of course they won't have mango, plums, peaches. I do know it is cheaper to buy in season. Granary Street carries local seasonal produce.

Let us know if you eat it all!

I shop at the Granary for all of my food other than produce. I am always hardpressed to find anything there other than some carrots and apples on occasion...I have been able to get lettuce in the fridge. Am I missing a day that they deliver b/c their produce selection is minimal at best.

Go to the Granary on Mon. afternoons. They have a lot of produce, especially in the summer.

Thanks...I will have to plan a trip then. I always want avocados, apples, etc. but they are always out. I can usually get large carrot packs and romaine lettuce but that is the only thing I can count on 60% of the time...the other things I can assume they will be out. Thanks again....I will give it a Monday try. =D

Ha! This is funny! I happened upon your site this morning and thought that produce looked so familiar!! I host as site for the same co-op in Lindale. Where do you pick up. For anyone wondering, I moved here 2 1/2 years ago from Arlington and was a member of the co-op there. I spent 1 1/2 years driving all over the area finding the best deals and the best produce. It started taking way too much time, especially when I would have a list and make it out to the granary (a 30 - 35 min. drive for me) and they would be out. Then there was the lovely east texas fresh, but it was seasonal and I was out of town on many weekends. Then there was the issue of fruit. Walmart's produce leaves a lot to be desired and Brookshires is expensive. So I contacted Monica at YourHealthSource.org and asked if she could deliver out here. I'm loving it and it really does save time in grocery shopping (not to mention sanity from always having 4 young kids with me while shopping!) and also in menu planning! Part of it is done for you(: Plus I never know that I LOVE kale, chard, cabbage, pears, and I've finally discovered a way to get beets in my system! (juicing with apples and carrots!) Anyway, just thought I'd share some of my thoughts. We just started with AO, years 1 and 2 yestereday so that is how I came across this site(: I'm always excited to see others using that! Lets me know that it can be done!!!
